Psalm 119: 65-66

Do good to your servant according to your work, O Lord. Teach me knowledge and good judgment, for I believe in your commands.

Lord we thank You for every good gift that You have given to Fr. Shaw, Mother Julie, and Lydia Mudge. We especially thank You for knowledge and good judgment and faith. Please continue to send these gifts and bless your servants as they get ready to leave for Peru in less than a month. Be with them in every little detail and in every big decision. We praise You, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Amen.

Prayer Mail from Fr. Shaw

Oscar Romero
24 March 2009

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Peace be with you.

As I write this, Julie and Lydia are busy visiting friends in the North Country and visiting colleges this week in advance of our departure for Peru, and I am currently listening to CNN en Español at home, studying Spanish, and continuing our administrative transition to Peru.

Even though Lydia is a Sophomore, it is easier to start the college tour now than next year. Two colleges under consideration this trip: Houghton College (has a good orientation program for missionary kids) and Roberts Wesleyan. At last count, there are two others in Pennsylvania in the wings as potential colleges. Please keep the trip in your prayers.

We enjoyed worshipping at Christ Church in Schenectady on Sunday, and enjoyed attending the Bible study there.

Praise reports:
1) We have been discussing an apartment in the Miraflores section of Lima, about 8 blocks from the language school, which will hopefully become our transient apartment for about month, until the longer term apartment opens up.

2) We had a great trip to visit SAMS and Hannah (our middle daughter) in Ambridge last week. We had an opportunity to meet with friends on and off the TSM campus, and to complete lots of necessary paperwork for SAMS.

3) Based on a suggestion from SAMS, we have been able to set up provision for paying estimated taxes on line. The praise report part is that we were able to set it up so we do not have to send forms through the mail.

4) Had a divine appointment with windshield repair company this week while in Pennsylvania, that was fixed with a minimum of inconvenience. A stone hit our window, as we were passing through Erie, PA, on the way to Ambridge, and by the next day a rather substantial crack appeared in the outer layer of the windshield.

5) A significant part of our baggage is en route to Peru.

6) We successfully began the first of our Skype phone calls between ourselves (at home) and Ruth, in Chicago. We can videoconference one computer to one computer, or we can audio conference with several computers at the same time.

7) For our financial and prayer support. We appreciate both.

Prayer requests:
1) For preparations for our arrival in Peru.

2) For preparations regarding our leaving between now and when we depart. Departure is April 20, arriving at night on April 20.

3) For language learning.

Upcoming schedule this next week:

1. Julie and Lydia at large in New York State.

2. Our presentation at St. John's in Troy on Sunday.

We pray for you daily, and thank you for your prayers.

God bless you.

In Christ,

Shaw, and on behalf of Julie and Lydia

Isaiah 55: 12

You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and hills will burst into song before you, and all the trees of the field will clap their hands.

Lord, what a joyful promise! We pray that Fr. Shaw, Mother Julie, and Lydia Mudge will go out in joy and be led forth in peace. In just a little over a month the Mudges will be on their way to Peru. We pray for a special anointing of the Holy Spirit upon them and for all the fruit of the spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control. (Galatians 5: 22-23) And we pray for joy and peace while Fr. Shaw, Mother Julie, and Lydia take care of all the little details necessary for a long term mission. Amen.

Dear Prayer Partners,

Peace be with you.

Thank you for your continuing prayers.

Although we do not leave for Peru until April 20, as we arrange for powers of attorney, make copies of documents, and draw up our contact list for SAMS, the finality of leaving becomes more poignant. Wow!

Thanksgivings this week:
1) for our visits to St. Andrew's in Scotia and to the youth group at St. Sacrement in Bolton Landing.
2) for the people praying for us and for those who are supporting us financially.

Prayers for the coming week:
1) arrangements for items to get to Peru.
2) our trip this week to visit our daughter Hannah and to visit SAMS in Ambridge, PA, both for one last time before April 20.
3) arrangements for our start in Peru, including housing arrangements for the first month.
4) language learning.
5) Lydia and Julie's college visitation trip next week.

Upcoming visitations:
March 29, St. John's, Troy
April 1, Trinity, Lansingburgh

God bless you.

Jeremiah 3:15

Then I will give you shepherds after my own heart, who will lead you with knowledge and understanding.

Lord, we thank You for Fr. Shaw, Mother Julie, and Lydia Mudge, shepherds after your own heart. Thank You for giving them your grace and your knowledge and your understanding so that they will be inspirational leaders in Peru, making your great Love known to many. Amen.

Prayer Mail from Fr. Shaw

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Peace be with you.

We are winding down our time in Colorado this week, and at the end of the week, we will be heading back to New York State for about a month. The programs here have been very valuable for all three of us as preparation for our ministry in the mission field, both individually and as a family.

Yesterday, one of our colleagues passed around prayers for missionaries, which is the substance of today's email for us:

"Bless Our Missions Workers With Your Prayers

B - Body - pray for their physical health and nutrition.
L - Labor - Pray for their work and their ministry.
E - Emotions - Pray for their emotional health.
S - Social - Pray for their social relations and their families.
S - Spiritual - Pray for their spiritual condition."

Thank you for your prayers. Our apartment arrangements and tax preparation matters are moving forward.

God b.l..e.s.s. you, today.

In Christ,
Shaw, and on behalf of Julie and Lydia.

Weekly Update from Father Shaw

Dear Prayer Partners,

Peace be with you.

Thank you for praying. We sense your prayers regularly. They are an important part of our ministry.

Currently, we are about a week and half from finishing our current program at Mission Training International.

Thanksgivings:
1) The first of our luggage has been received in Peru.
2) Discussions regarding our potential apartment in Lima are moving forward.
3) We are very grateful for all the prayer and financial support we have been receiving.
4) For Mtr. Susan Baker Borjeson and Debbie Fish's willingness to take us to the airport on April 20 (Julie reminds me that we are going to be landing in Peru on the 20th, and not the 21st).

Prayers:
1) for our upcoming visitations:
St. Andrew's in Scotia, March 14 and 15.
St. Sacrement, March 15.
St. Stephen's in Delmar, March 22.
St. John's in Troy, March 29.
2) for language learning, including language routes (see below)
3) tax preparation and internet banking matters
4) necessary documentation that we would need in the various circumstances in Peru
5) for our apartment arrangements.
6) for spiritual, emotional, and physical strength to endure all of God's poking through the rest of the MTI program.

In depth prayer request: What is a language route? We would regularly walk through an area of Lima near where we would live. Each week, on this walk-about, we would regularly visit with several people who would be willing to interact with, as a way of helping us to learn Spanish. So our prayers include finding the right route and finding the right people.

God bless you!

In Christ,
Shaw+

Teach me knowledge and good judgment,
For I believe in your commands.

Lord, we thank You for this time of missionary training for Fr. Shaw, Mother Julie, and Lydia Mudge and for all the others in Colorado right now. Do good to these servants of yours, Lord. Teach them knowledge and good judgment and other skills that they will need in their ministries. Help them with their language development and strengthen their relationships with You. Amen.
