Weekly Prayer Mail

Dear Partners in Prayer,

Peace be with you.
This is our weekly public prayer mail of 26 January 2010.

Thanksgivings:

1) That we are well on the way to recovering from the cold that passed through our family and well on the way to recovering from the secondary health issues related to that.

2) That Lydia had a great time this past week as one of the youth leaders of a youth arts and sports program here, a week-long summer program for Peruvian young people, put together by Rock-the-World.

3) That the service went well on Sunday at La Ascencion.

4) For all the people who have been contributing to our mission effort by their prayers, finances and other resources.

5) That the Holy Spirit is moving in the congregations in which we minister. We are hearing good reports about what is happening when we are leading the services. Thank you for praying for these missions.

6) For all the amazing things that the Lord is doing in our lives and through us. It is truly awe inspiring, and I believe that the movement of the Holy Spirit has a lot to do with the prayers that our prayer partners pray for us (that would be you).

Prayers:

1) For the relationships, ministries, finances, planning, and prioritizing associated with the Diocese of Peru, Saints Augustine seminary, and the Missionaries in Peru (including us).

2) For the Sunday service that we will be involved with at La Ascencion this week (I am celebrating and Julie is preaching), and for the healing service in which we will both participate in the evening of February 7.

3) For our family both here and in the US.

4) For the Bishops Suffragan selection process underway in the Diocese of Peru, and for the upcoming election in March.

5) For the course and orientation preparations currently underway at the seminary, as well as for the preparations and plans for the graduation service in April.

6) For the Albany short term mission trip plans and preparations (the Diocesan mission trip is scheduled for late July). We want this to be a really good trip for everyone, to accomplish what God has in mind.

7) For our visitation to the US this year, including 1) Julie at New Wineskins and the SAMS worldwide conference in April in North Carolina, and 2) Julie, Lydia, and I in Pennsylvania and New York State/Connecticut in May/June, including our Diocesan Convention plans.

Thank you for praying for us. It makes a difference. I pray for you every day.

God bless you.

Weekly Prayer Mail

Dear Prayer Partners,

Peace be with you.

This is our public prayer mail of Tuesday, 19 January 2010.

Thanksgivings:

1) The Global missions course at the seminary this past week went really well. We had a good time with the people who gave their presentations as well as a good time with the students who attended. I recommend Meredith Borel of Rock the World if you are looking for a presenter, and whatever she suggests.

2) Julie has registered for the New Wineskins for Global Mission conference in North Carolina in April, and she will be attending the world-wide SAMS missionary gathering on our behalf. Lydia and I will be here in Lima during that time.

3) We have tickets for a visit to the Diocese of Albany in May and June. We plan to visit Hannah´s graduation from TSM in Mid-May in Pennsylvania, work our way through college visitations with Lydia, ultimately end up in the Diocese of Albany for Hannah´s ordination in June, and a week later, attend the Albany Diocesan Convention in Speculator. And then, we will return to Peru.

4) Thanksgiving for some great cultural experiences in Lima, in the past week.

5) Thanksgiving for a great mission team to work with.

6) Thanksgiving for the youth mission team from Pennsylvania which is here at one of the missions this week, and that Lydia is participating in the events of the week.

7) For the prayer time at the mission of Jesus el Salvador in the Villa el Salvador District of Lima, last night at the Holy Eucharist. It was a divine blessing for everyone.

Prayers:

1) For the mission, ministry, relationships, and finances of the Diocese of Peru, the seminary here, the missions of Ascension and Jesus el Salvador, and the missionaries here, including the Mudge family.

2) For the Diocese of Albany short-term mission trip in late July.

3) For the services that we will be involved with/leading at the Mission of Ascencion in the Surco District of Lima, over the next three weeks, including the healing service on the evening of February 7.

4) For the preparation for our upcoming courses in preaching and evangelism, for the upcoming seminary orientation presentations in mid-February, and for the CEMO ordination process parts that Julie is putting together, including the selection of the people to be on the committee. That the Holy Spirit would be bless all those involved with discernment and wisdom.

5) For the current phase of the Bishop Suffragan process, having the nominees send in their applications for review. We would like the Holy Spirit to make it abundantly clear who the candidates of his choice are to be.

6) For the seeds that were planted at the Global Missions course this week would sprout and grow, guided and cultivated by the Holy Spirit.

7) For our supporters in prayer, as well as those who support us financially. That would include you, in one or both of those categories.

8) For continuing good relationships with our landlady and the people in our building. There is a new building maintenance-fee-paying process in the works, and we would like your prayers for that, that the next billing cycle would go smoothly and in a timely manner.

9) For the 17 goals handed out at the annual meeting of the Mission of Ascencion in Surco, for 2010.

10) An anniversary prayer for my mom. Today is her wedding anniversary. My dad passed away on January 23, 2001. They had been married for 50 years.

Thank you for praying for us. I pray for you, every day. Your prayers make a difference.

God bless you,

In Christ,
Shaw, and on behalf of Julie and Lydia.

Scripture Prayer

Genesis 12: 1-3a:

The Lord said to Abram,
“Leave your land, your relatives, and your father’s home.
Go to the land that I will show you.
I will make you a great nation,
I will bless you.
I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing.
I will bless those who bless you.

Father God, we thank You that the Mudges have heard your call to leave their family in the U.S. and the Diocese of Albany and go to Peru. Thank You for the many blessings that You have bestowed upon them and the good things that they are doing in Your Name. Thank You, Lord, for their intercessors and for the blessings that you have showered upon them as well. We pray for continued blessings, especially on the new Seminary semester to start in February, on Mother Julie’s trip to New Wineskins, and on the visit of the Mudge trio to the Diocesan Convention in June. We so look forward to seeing them in person again. Thank You, Lord for Fr. Shaw and Mother Julie and Lydia Mudge. Amen.

January Newsletter

Precautions against Disease

It is Epiphany season, and we have been helping out by leading some worship services at the Mission of Jesus el Salvador in the Villa el Salvador District of Lima, in addition to our seminary duties, and in addition to helping out at the Mission of Ascension in the Surco District of Lima.

To help ward off the swine flue (la gripe porcina, otherwise affectionately known as A1H1), the Diocese of Peru follows recommended health guidelines for communion. One of the guidelines is for the celebrant to use alcoholic-based waterless hand cleaner just before the Eucharistic Prayer. The usual place for this cleaner, for use during the service, is on the credence table.

So, at our first service at Jesus el Salvador (on Christmas Day), I dutifully had the familiar looking blue substance put on my fingers. As I was rubbing my hands, however, I noticed that it was starting to foam. "Ah ha," I thought to myself, "this is liquid soap, not waterless hand cleaner. It is not evaporating. It is spreading."

Then followed a contingency plan, a liturgical rite known as "the pilgrimage to find some water and a paper towel." However, the sacristy did not have water or towels, so Julie and I ventured further into the mission, ultimately into the kitchen of the mission while the congregation continued to sing. And, praise God, within a few minutes, we managed to find a workable faucet and something to wipe my hands on, and the liturgy resumed in a timely manner.

Celebrations: We enjoyed the elaborate fireworks displays all over the city of Lima for the first 20 minutes of Christmas Day and again for the first 20 minutes of New Year´s Day.

Plans later in the year: We plan to visit The Albany Diocesan Convention in 2010, visiting the US for a few weeks in late May/early June, for: Hannah´s graduation from seminary and her ordination to the Diaconate, and for Lydia to look at colleges, before we return to Peru.

Prayer Requests:
• For course preparations.
• For the seminary, the missions, and the diocese: ministries, relationships, priorities, and finances.
• That we spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ in all that we do in the power of the Holy Spirit.
• For the Diocese of Albany short-term mission trip to Lima in late July.

God bless you, and thank you for your continuing support! –

Shaw, and on behalf of Julie and Lydia

Scripture Prayer

Psalm 150:

Hallelujah!

Praise God in his holy place.
Praise him in his mighty heavens.
Praise him for his mighty acts.
Praise him for his immense greatness.
Praise him with sound from horns.
Praise him with harps and lyres.
Praise him with tambourines and dancing.
Praise him with stringed instruments and flutes.
Praise him with loud cymbals.
Praise him with crashing cymbals.
Let everything that breathes praise the Lord!
Hallelujah!

Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ Our Lord and Savior, and Precious Holy Spirit, we praise you with everything that we have. Thank You for your mighty acts and for your immense greatness. Especially thank you for everything that you do through Father Shaw and Mother Julie and Lydia Mudge. Thank you for the outstanding year that they have had as they began their mission work in Peru. Thank You for all that You are going to do through them in this new year of 2010. We pray especially for the worship services that they lead and participate in. May there be lots of praise and joyful noise and plentiful gifts of the Spirit. Amen.

Weekly Prayer Mail

Dear Friends in Prayer,

Peace be with you.

This is our weekly public prayer mail.

Lydia captured some of the New Year´s Day fireworks on camera (from midnight to about 12:20 am). They were awesome.

Thanksgivings:
1) For the prayer and ministry partnership of Julie, Lydia, and myself. I like our family team. It is an awesome combination that Jesus put together.

2) For New Year´s contacts with family and friends in the United States.

3) For the celebrations and services in which we have participated, over the past week.

4) For the progress we have been making in our course preparations.

5) We had an exciting moment this week with an earth tremor that was a bit stronger than usual. I have never felt flooring in our apartment ripple under my feet, before. (I do not recommend seeing the movie "2012" prior to experiencing one of these.) Praise God that the tremor was minor.

Prayer requests:
1) For the ministries, relationships, and finances of the Diocese of Peru, the seminary, and the missionaries here, including ourselves.

2) For the services upcoming in the next week: I celebrate an Epiphany service at Jesus el Salvador in the Villa el Salvador district of Lima at 6:30 pm on Wednesday. I celebrate and preach at Ascencion in the Surco district of Lima at 11 am on Sunday. That the Holy Spirit would move in a mighty way in both services, and for spiritual protection.

3) For the Council (Vestry) meeting at Ascencion on Thursday 6:30 pm, followed by a special prayer ministry situation.

4) For our daughter Hannah, this week, who is taking canonical exams at the Spiritual Life Center.

5) For the nominations for Bishops Suffragan, deadline is: up to January 6.

6) Believe it or not, January is the time for one of two annual stamps on our carnets, at Migraciones for Julie, Lydia, and me. Please pray that the process would go smoothly.

7) For Mike and Linda Chapman who move into our condominium on the 8th.

8) For good relationships with our landlady.

9) Julie has upcoming Commission on Ministry meetings to schedule. She would appreciate your prayers for the timing and content of the meetings.

Thank you for praying for us. I pray for you daily, in Spanish. Your prayers make a significant difference.

God bless you.

In Christ,
Shaw
Ephesians 6: 13-20

Therefore take the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand, therefore, having girded your loins with truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the equipment of the gospel of peace, above all taking the shield of faith, with which you can quench all the flaming darts of the evil one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the spirit, which is the word of God. Pray at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints, and also for me, that utterance may be given me in opening my mouth boldly, as I ought to speak.

Heavenly Father, throughout this new year of 2010, we ask for your protection for the Mudge family and for their intercessors. Help us all to remember to put on the whole armor so that we might stand in truth and righteousness and spread your gospel of peace as we stay steadfast in faith.

May we proclaim our salvation and stay immersed in your word. Holy Spirit, be with us in our prayer and supplication. Help us to persevere in our spiritual lives and daily lift up the Mudges in prayer. May Father Shaw and Mother Julie and Lydia boldly proclaim your truth, your mercy, your kindness, your love for us all.

We ask all of this in the name of Jesus Christ, Our Savior. Amen.

Dear friends in prayer,

Peace be with you.

This is our weekly public prayer mail for 28 December 09.

Thanksgivings:

1) Thanksgiving for Christmas celebrations, and the fireworks in Lima, this year. About fireworks: imagine the main Albany fireworks on the fourth of July, but with that same intensity in every park and section in Lima especially for 20 minutes from about Midnight on December 24, everywhere at the same time, and you get the idea.

2) Thanksgiving for Skype videocalls with relatives in the United States.

3) Thanksgiving for the people whom Jesus brought to the church service at Jesus el Salvador on Christmas Day to celebrate his birth with us. Julie preached. I celebrated. We prayed for individual spiritual blessings for people. Lydia liked the music and the sermon. It was great.

4) Thanksgiving for our friends here and in the United States.

5) Thanksgiving for the blessings and fruit that the Holy Spirit is producing through the mission endeavor in Peru.

6) Thanksgiving that Lydia has been asked to help with Sunday School ministry at Ascension.

Prayer requests:

1) Prayer for our heavenly Father´s mission, ministries, plans, resources, and relationships in the Diocese of Peru, and among the seminary staff and students, and in all the missionary families (including us), here, that through all of the people working together in harmony with God´s intentions, many lives would be transformed in the power of the Holy Spirit to the glory of God.

2) Prayer for the two missions and for the seminary work that we are currently involved with. The missions are La Ascencion in the Surco District of Lima, and Jesus el Salvador in the Villa el Salvador District of Lima.

3) Prayer for particular upcoming events:

January 3 (annual parish meeting at La Ascencion)

January 6, the 6:30 pm service at Jesus el Salvador (Shaw is celebrating); this is the final day for nominations for the Bishop Suffragan election, here.

January 10, the 11 am service at Ascension (Shaw is preaching)

4) Prayer for discernment of God´s plans for Lydia during summer break (summer break is now).

Thank you very much for praying for us. It really, really makes a difference. I pray for you every day.

God bless you and your family.

A Prayer from Liv Hicks

Father, Thank You for these good news letters. I pray for Shaw, Julie and Lydia to grow in Your love, to reflect Your walk with them to the people they meet and minister to, to run to You for wisdom, to be consistent in prayer, to continue to grow in their new language, to be clothed in Your armor, and to be protected healthwise and emotionally, as they 'recaputure the land' in their love and obedience to You. Thank You for Your Son Jesus. In His name, Jesus the Christ, we pray. Amen
