Psalm 33: 20-22

We wait in hope for the Lord;
He is our help and our shield.
In Him our hearts rejoice,
For we trust in His Holy Name.
May Your unfailing love rest upon us, O Lord,
Even as we put our hope in You.

Lord, You are our help and our shield. All of our hope is in You. We thank You for the help and protection that you are sending out to Fr. Shaw, Mother Julie, and Lydia Mudge as they begin their adventure in Peru and bring your hope to the people there. Let their hearts rejoice as they trust in Your Holy Name. May the Mudges always feel your unfailing love rest upon them as everyday they put their hope in You. Amen.

First Message from Fr. Shaw in Peru

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Peace be with you.

We have arrived safely in Peru. What we shipped down has all arrived safely with the exception of two bags coming down tomorrow. We have a temporary visa of 183 days. We will be applying for a residential visa in due course.

We are settling in. We do not have internet at our temporary apartment, but there is wi-fi at the language school where we will be studying; we start language school on Monday.

Right now, we are writing from the rectory of the Cathedral of the Good Shepherd in Lima.

Language learning accelerates in the culture. It has been said that a thousand exposures to a word puts it in mid-term memory, and when in-culture, there are a lot of exposures to words.

God bless you.

In Christ,

Shaw, and on behalf of Julie and Lydia.

Details on the Mudges’ trip to Peru: Plese hold Fr. Shaw, Mother Julie, and Lydia Mudge in prayer throughout the day on Monday, April 20. Debbie Fish from Duanesburg and Mother Susan from Coxsackie will pick them up in Wynantskill at 9:00 A.M. and drive them to Newark Airport. Their plane leaves for Lima at 2:40 P.M. and they will arrive in Peru at 10:45 P.M. Eastern time. They will then settle down in a temporary apartment for about a month. Pray for travel mercies and protection for the Mudges and for Debbie and Mother Susan.

Excerpts from Jesus’ Prayer in John 17

I have revealed you to those whom you gave me out of the world. They were yours; you gave them to me and they have obeyed your word….They knew with certainty that I came from you, and they believed that you sent me. I pray for them….And glory has come to me through them. ….Holy Father, protect them by the power of your name—the name you gave me—so that they may be one as we are one.

Jesus Our Savior, we pray along with you for Fr. Shaw, Mother Julie, and Lydia Mudge. We pray especially for their protection as they travel on April 20 and for protection throughout their time in Peru. May they know your glory and spread your glory. May they bring more glory to your name. And may they be one with you and Your Father, one with each other, and one with the whole Christian community.

…so that they may have the full measure of my joy within them… My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one…Sanctify them by the truth; your word is the truth. As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world. For them I sanctify myself, that they too may be truly sanctified.

Jesus, Our Lord, we continue to pray with you that the Mudges will have the full measure of your joy within them. Protect them from the evil one and sanctify them by your truth. You have sent them into the world, Jesus. May they be truly sanctified to do your work in Peru.

My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one: I in them and you in me. May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them, even as you have loved me.

Jesus, Son of God, again we pray with you for all those in Peru to whom the Mudges will minister. May they be one as You and Your Father and the Holy Spirit are one. May the full blessings of the Trinity be within them so that they may let the world know of your everlasting love. Amen.

A Departing Message from the Mudges

Dear friends,

Where are Shaw and Julie Mudge now….

Psalm 105:1-4

Give thanks to the Lord, call on his name;
Make known among the nations what He has done.
Sing to Him, sing praise to Him;
Tell of all his wonderful acts.
Glory in his holy name;
Let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice.
Look to the Lord and his strength;
Seek his face always.

Lord, we worship You mightily this Easter week, this week of remembering your resurrection. We thank You for your death on the cross for our sins and for the promise of eternal life for those that believe in You. We thank You for Fr. Shaw, Mother Julie, and Lydia Mudge who are preparing to leave for Peru to make known among the nations what You have done. We sing your praises and pray for Mother Julie and her musical talents and hope that she finds opportunities to share her music as a witness to You. May all three of your servants glory in your name and minister to those who will seek You with all their hearts. May the Mudges and their contacts always look to You for strength and seek your face always. Amen.

Prayer Mail from Fr. Shaw Mudge

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Peace be with you and Happy Easter!

We will be in Connecticut this week for a few days, and we may not have Internet access, so our prayer request this week is that we would all draw nearer to our Resurrected Lord and his plans for our lives.

We are looking forward to meeting with everyone who can join us at our last team meeting before we go to Peru, at our house on the 16th, at 7 pm.

God bless you.

In Christ,

Shaw, and on behalf of Julie and Lydia.

Prayer Mail from Father Shaw

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Peace be with you.

"You are not simply packing a few things in luggage, you are moving a ministry center."

Wow, those words hit home today. That is exactly what we are doing. Details. Details. Details. Sometimes progress seems to be measured in millimeters. And the clock keeps ticking. In about a week and a half we will be in Peru. Then comes the potential undefined communications black-out, and on the far side of it we will be back in contact.

This is the second to last prayer mail before we go. Wow. Yes, we are excited! Yes, there is a lot to do.

Thanksgivings: we are accomplishing a lot. We have had a great time saying good-bye to Ruth in Chicago, Hannah in Ambridge, and the clergy of the Diocese at the Chrism Mass at the Cathedral. But we will miss everyone. That is part of the paradox of moving.

Most of our luggage has gone. The books are going to Peru by M-bags today. Most of the address updates have been made. Most of the financial matters have been finalized. So far, a good foundation has been set for moving forward. I have had more of an opportunity to do some background reading on Latin America, particularly Peru.

God has blessed us in many ways, both through friends here and in Peru who are helping us make this a good transition.

Prayer request: we have a ways to go, and are at the point where we are making those final decisions before we go. Then the actual move, and the settling down in one place, followed by another. Help us to focus on what the Holy Spirit would have us do.

God bless you.
In Jesus,
Shaw+

Jeremiah 29: 11-13

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”

Father God, we thank You for the plans that you have for the Mudges. We thank You that they will prosper in Peru and will be kept safe. We thank You for the hope that Fr. Shaw, Mother Julie, and Lydia have for their future in serving You. Thank You for listening to them when they call to You. Thank You that they do seek You with all their hearts and that You reveal Yourself to them. Bless them especially this Holy Week Lord. Bless them as they say good-by to family and friends. And bless their last minute preparations to be ready to fly to Peru on April 20. Amen.

Jeremiah 24: 6-7

My eyes will watch over them for their good, and I will bring them back to this land. I will build them up and not tear them down; I will plant them and not uproot them. I will give then a heart to know me, that I am the Lord. They will be my people, and I will be their God, for they will return to me with all their heart.

Thank You, Lord, for watching over Fr. Shaw, Mother Julie, and Lydia Mudge. Thank You for watching over them here in the USA and also in Peru. Keep them safe, Lord. Thank You that You will build them up and not tear them down. Thank You for planting them in Peru. Thank You for giving them a heart to know You and to know that You are Lord. Thank You that You will never leave them and that they will always return to You with all their heart. Amen.
